I am terrified of people. I despise the age we are in where everything is digital. Yes, because of my social awkwardness and anxiety; But also, because they all remind me of why I look a certain way. Why can't I be a standard of beauty?
Ode to the Harriets. - The sun is the source of her power. Her melanin rises to it’s climax whenever she wakes. Her tempered spirit blossoms with fire as she is imbued with ancestral wisdom. And they tell her, do not be afraid to shoot your enemies on the way to freedom. When the Black woman speaks, it is truth. There is no doubt or hesitation, for the creation of her presence is one “woc” or white folks can’t emulate--even with Blackface. She is culture that can’t be appropriated and resistant to weaknesses of man. The only “supremacy” worth acknowledging is her own -- she breathes life into all that is dull, she restores, she cares, she labors...not for his sake, but for theirs--her community. And the one thing never understood, we now know to be true, it all begins and ends with you. The Black woman. I write this ode, to thank you.
